2014 Winter Olympics - IXS
by
Jackie Gates
The cities that originally bid for the Olympics were Almaty(Kazakhstan),Jaca(Spain), Sofiza(Bulgaria), Borjomi(Georgia) Sochi(Russia), PyeongChang(Korea) and Salzburg(Austria). After the dust settled, the contenders still in the ring are Sochi, PyeongChang and Salzburg. It is very interesting to have an unbiased comparison of the short-listed venues (as well as the underlying politics which unfortunately biases results) in order to predict the outcome.

Its mild subtropical climate makes it hugely popular with the Russians - it is a wonderful summer resort on the coast and winter wonderland higher up in the mountains in winter. Sochi came into the limelight a few years ago when it was chosen to host the XXII Olympic Winter Games and XI Paralympic Winter Games in 2014. Another sport event taking place there is the Russian Formula 1 Grand Prix which also starts in 2014.

The games draw in crowds of spectators, athletes and media and like any place who hosts the biggest games in the world, the city of Sochi needs to offer the masses something to accommodate their every desire.
