Los Angeles Times Coverage of Hwang Indictments Misses Points of Relevance to Proposition 71
by
Lawrence Ebert
In discussing the indictments of Korean stem cell worker Hwang Woo Suk and five associates, the May 12 Los Angeles Times article by Barbara Demick neglected to mention the indictment for breach of the Korean bioethics law concerning procurement of human eggs. Issues surrounding the obtaining of human eggs are immensely significant in the implementation of Proposition 71, and the saga of what happened in Korea is important to what should happen in California. Separately, the Times article neglected to point out the presence of two distinct frauds in the Hwang matter, one committed by a junior researcher for the purpose of obtaining an exchange fellowship to come to the U.S. to work in the lab of Gerald Schatten of the University of Pittsburgh.

The Better Life Game - A Sad Indictment?
by
Graham Hunt
Is the fact that there is a 'better life game' available on the Internet a good thing or a bad thing? In my not-so-humble opinion this, along with all the other virtual world games that are proving so popular is a sad indictment on the depths our societies have sunk to. I can certainly understand the attraction.
