The Grand Theatre - Matcham's Masterpiece
by
Philip Willett
Opened on July 23rd 1894, the Grand Theatre was dubbed Matcham's Masterpiece by Thomas Sergenson, Blackpool's first successful theatrical manager who had previously staged a circus on the same site. Frank Matcham was a leading Victorian 'theatre architect' of the day and designed over two hundred theatres throughout the British Isles. His brief from Thomas Sergenson was to build 'the best, prettiest and cosiest theatre possible.'

Healing the Bleeding Heart
by
Tristan M Taylor
It's all so vivid in my memory that it still makes me feel ill. And yet it's some years ago now. Whilst I had the pleasure of meeting Timothy West and Prunella Scales and enjoying their part in a performance of William Walton's 'Facade', I was to experience one of the most appalling displays of emotional pain I had yet witnessed.

The Boys From Brazil
by
Paul M Williams
At first glance, "The Boys of Brazil" seemed to deal with unusual subject matter, it seemed to come with a high pedigree and as a result I was initially expecting a great deal. Top notch stars such as Gregory Peck and Laurence Olivier further whetted my appetite and I knew that Director Franklin J. Schaffner had a proven track record with titles such as "Papillon," "Patton" and the original "Planet of the Apes.
