Run, Hike or Bike For Charity - The Sensible Way To Raise Funds!
by
Victoria Cochrane
There appears to be no limit to the generosity of the UK public where charity is concerned; nor does there appear to be any limits to what people will do to persuade others to donate to their cause. Take some of the more unique or just plain weird fund-raising ideas from the last few years. Most notable of these was the Original Ditch Monkey - real name Hugh Sawyer - who in 2005 decided to spend 12 weeks living in nothing more than a ditch to raise funds for the Woodland Trust, whilst also continuing to travel...

Volunteering - Helping to Remind People of What Society is Supposed to Be All About
by
Adam Singleton
It's easy to overlook those who need help. Cancer, for example, affects millions and without the support of charities, sufferers would be left isolated and scared. Volunteering is a great way to help those in need, as well as being vital to society.

If you're looking for the best time to book a cottage deal in Cornwall, why not plan your break to coincide with the county's food and drink festival? The event takes place in cathedral city - Truro - between September 24th and 26th and could be a fantastic part of your holiday in Cornwall, bringing locals together along with tourists and professionals from the culinary world at the city's central Lemon Quay Piazza. Activities scheduled to take place include cook-offs, cookery lessons and cocktail-making demonstrations.

August Wilson - The Most Compulsive and Strident Voice From the Black American Theatre
by
Arthur Smith
I first discovered August Wilson, when I read and discussed his electrifying play Fences in a contemporary American Literature seminar in University of Louisville. As I read it, it was as if the play was being enacted with the characters coming alive before my eyes. Wondering why I had not known such an incisive writer before, I pledged to introduce him to many others which is what I have been doing. Wilson's plays, which are just terrific, are produced throughout the U.S. regularly as he had become in little time with many acclaimed plays a very reckonable and vibrant American theatrical voice. Each of the ten plays he has produced, each depicting the comedy and tragedy of the African-American experience in different decades in the 20th century and exploring, often very subtly, the myriad and mutating forms of the legacy of slavery is unprecedented in American theater for concept, size, and cohesion. This article is the first in a series starting off from his earliest life and education which sets the background necessary for understanding the preoccupations in his work.
