Frost/Nixon Blu-Ray Review
by
Steve Exeter
Director Ron Howard's film version of Peter Morgan's play Frost/Nixon effectively captures the original stage performances of both Michael Sheen, as maverick reporter David Frost and Frank Langella, as ostracised former US President Richard Nixon. The drama cleverly explores the foibles of both leading characters as they meet head to head for a series of intimate televised interviews. David Frost, the Cambridge University graduate turned media wunderkind whose ground breaking satirical show That Was The Week That Was (or TW3 for short) launched his television career making him a house hold name in Britain and quickly...

"The Children's Blizzard" by David Laskin
by
Alan G. Scott
David Laskin's novel of the Dakota/Nebraska blizzard of 1888 is a thriller but heart-wrenching as well as he describes the disaster in which hundreds of school children perished. He painfully describes the struggles of early settlers from Norway, Sweden and German Russia as they left their homes and countries behind for the promises of easy and fertile farming in the Great Plains of the United States, along with the monetary rewards for their labors.

The Lynchian Life of David Lynch
by
Russell Shortt
I am sure he was happy to have done so, as the result was the mighty Blue Velvet (1986), a neo-noir classic detailing the ominous shadows that lurk behind the white picket fences of harmonious middle-class, small-town America, it garnered Lynch an Academy Award for Best Director for the second time. Continuing to examine this most Lynchian of ideas - the hidden, murky depths of small towns - Lynch collaborated with Mark Frost on the hit TV series Twin Peaks (1990-1991).

Discover What a Pioneer of Political Satire on Television Can Teach You About Attracting Women
by
Teddy Shabba
When it comes to attracting women, it seems as if some men have questions on what to do and not do throughout the entire process. For a variety of different reasons (I blame the media) a lot of men are more focused on moving away from rejection rather than moving towards success with women.

The Artistic Vision of David Lean's Dr Zhivago
by
Kathleen Karlsen
Doctor Zhivago (1965) is a sweeping epic saturated with the thematic concerns, aesthetic sensitivities and story-telling abilities of director David Lean. David Lean, like the character of Doctor Zhivago, is undeniably a poet, and he tells his love story against the backdrop of the Russian revolution in cadences that are often more artistic than realistic.

The White House and the Silver Screen
by
Zack Mandell
Politics and Hollywood make strange yet successful, bedfellows. When a film features the life and times of one of America's presidents, whether real or fictional, money usually follows. Presidential-themed movies fall into many genres, including science fiction, biography, drama, and comedy.

Tips From a Terrified Skier
by
Robert Waldvogel
I could hardly believe it. More than a year had passed and it had once again been time for the annual company ski trip to the Pocono Mountains. Unlike last year, almost everyone had decided to go the night before and stay in the same hotel, getting a full night's sleep and reaching the slopes early, without getting lost on the way.

Paul - Movie Review
by
Josh Lyons
Despite its slight shortcomings, Paul does indeed provide several laughs and some good entertainment. While possibly slightly generic/bland, the movie is a fun ride and one that will surely please any Pegg or Frost fans while also making sci-fi nerds a bit giddy over the inside jokes/references. For any fan of this pair's previous two movies, Paul may not end up being your favorite of the three, but it's definitely worth the watch and you won't leave disappointed.

Personalities in Progress - A Ski Story
by
Robert Waldvogel
Crossing the New Jersey-Pennsylvania state line at the Delaware Water Gap, I paralleled the muddy-appearing Delaware River near the Appalachian Trail, the interstate narrowing to two lanes and shallowly ascending into the brown-treed, gray shale rock-covered Pocono Mountains. The slender, finger-like white patterns representing the still-snow-covered ski trails of Camelback Mountain were now visible through the left car window. As the miles rolled by, I thought of the past two ski trips, trips which had been highlighted--perhaps "warped" is the better word--by the personalities of my group.
