Sleepy Hollow of Catalonia
by
Alvin Toffler
FIGUERES is a small provincial town in the region of Catalonia with just 30,000 residents. It is seemingly undemanding that many may pass it by from their holiday itinerary if not for the famed museum, Museu Dali. This ancient museum was built by the renowned Salvador Dali and exhibits great relic pieces that draw crowds to this sleepy hollow.

The Headless Horseman Rides Again
by
Larry M. Lynch
Every year during the month of October and at times into early November, I show my EFL students the Disney animated version of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow". The video serves several purposes both didactic and non-didactic. It continues to be popular with students regardless of their age, major or occupation. Most of you are probably familiar with Washington Irving's classic American short story, originally penned in 1819-1820, based on a German folktale. If you don't know the story it's worth a read.

My Take on the Story of Rip Van Winkle
by
James Cochrane
I grew up in North Tarrytown, NY, which has since been renamed to Sleepy Hollow. The author of the legend of Sleepy Hollow and Rip Van Winkle was from that area. Part of our literature requirements as kids naturally included Washington Irving (the said author).

The Original Films of Tim Burton
by
Katherine Reid
Before Tim Burton unleashed the magic of Alice in Wonderland, the dark director was making his own original films like the bizarre Beetlejuice and the peculiar Edward Scissorhands. It was only later in Burton's career that he moved into remakes, starting with Sleepy Hollow in 1999 and continuing with Planet of the Apes in 2001 and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in 2005. Although Burton always puts his eccentric spin on borrowed material, his original films are arguably his best.
