Cricket Between England and Australia Before 1882
by
Keith Faunch
Whilst the birth of the Ashes can accurately be dated to 1882, before that date there were a number of cricket matches between England and Australia. Although there were a number of professional leagues in the north of England, it was seen by many as an amateur sport played in the main by the upper classes. That said, the early matches were privately funded affairs and, similar to other contests of the time, most matches were against odds.

Elizabeth Miskar
Most agree, the kitchen is the heart of any home. It is a place where families gather and daily living happens. According to a study by the research council of the Continental Automated Building Association, up to 65% of homeowners entertain in their kitchens and 15 of 21 weekly meals are made at home. Although trends come and go, the principles of functionality and space should always be at the heart of any kitchen design.

Cricket Galore in 2013
by
Ram Kaushik
The year's just about started and already it is resonating with the thrill of the upcoming cricket events. The cricket frenzy in India has now reached a fever pitch. The hardcore cricket fans have already made space on their respective planners and diaries to accommodate their cricket watching schedule. Neither rain, nor sleet and apparently nor work will pry a true cricket fan from his television set or in some extreme cases the cricket auditorium.

Iron Indicates Our Cosmos Had A Violent Past!
by
Judith E Braffman-Miller
Our Universe was born almost 14 billion years ago in the inflationary Big Bang, and it has been expanding and cooling ever since. It began as an unimaginably tiny Patch, and then--in the merest fraction of a second--expanded exponentially to reach macroscopic size. The entire Cosmos emerged from an extraordinarily tiny primordial droplet of searing-hot, densely packed particles, commonly referred to as the "fireball. All of the majestic galaxies in the Universe, as well as their billions of fiery, brilliant stars, with their retinues of planets, moons, and assorted other smaller, dancing, circling objects, sprung from this tiny, tiny Patch. In October 2013, researchers at Stanford University announced that they had detected new evidence that iron is spread evenly between the galaxies inhabiting one of the largest clusters known--thus supporting the theory that our Cosmos experienced a violent youth!

The Bizarre Behavior Of Sagittarius A-Star
by
Judith E Braffman-Miller
Supermassive black holes, that weigh millions to billions of times more than our Sun, probably lurk in the dark and secretive hearts of most, if not all, galaxies floating around in our observable Universe. Our resident Beast, residing in the mysterious center of our own Milky Way Galaxy, is named "Sagittarius A-Star", or "Sgr A-star," for short (pronounced "Saj-a-star"), and it is a relative light-weight as these hefty, hungry supermassive gravitational Beasts go, weighing "merely" millions, as opposed to billions, of solar-masses. Black holes, as their name implies, are quite black! However, in the August 30, 2013 issue of the journal Science, a group of astronomers present new findings that shed light on the weird behavior of our own resident Beast--and by inference, on the other supermassive black holes that haunt the dark hearts of other galaxies that dance around so mysteriously in our Cosmos.
