Federal budget 2014

Federal budget 2014
In Critique of the FTC Prior to the Federal Budget Hearings for FY 2014
by
Lance Winslow
It must be that time again? What time you ask? Budget time because all of the Federal Agencies once again, and they do this every single year since I've been taking notes, are out promoting themselves and trying to make headlines. They put out press releases to show they are doing god's work for the people, to show us how much we need them, and to get the congress to take notice to ensure increased budgets or to avoid the budget axe. Let's talk shall we.

Feds Take Over Federal Student Loans
by
Jonathan Cykman
As part of health care reconciliation, major changes were enacted into law relating to federal student loan programs. Included in this legislation is what appears to be no less than a federal takeover of federal student loans, along with big increases in Pell Grants. The new law eliminates the Federal Family Education Loan Program and cuts out private lenders.

US Federal Borrowing and Future Debt Crisis
by
Harold Wong
Many of the mainstream politicians have no interest in solving our U.S. debt crisis. They hope they can keep borrowing from Asia and when our creditors cut us off, they will be retired millionaires. Question: Are Americans willing to cut spending, raise taxes, and stop borrowing?

2014 - Equity Flop and Commodity Hop
by
Andy Waldock
I thought taking a vacation at the end of 2013 might allow me to come back to the markets with a clear head and new viewpoint. My hope was that a little detachment would bring the forest back into the picture at 35,000 feet. I've now caught up on my reading and research and find the markets just as schizophrenic as they were when I left.

The 2014 Drought In California Is Official
by
Lance Winslow
California has always had challenges with droughts between El Nino years. Still, today these droughts appear to be getting worse. No, I am not going to label such a common problem on global warming climate change. In fact, if we were truly experiencing greater surface temperatures, that would include the surface of the ocean causing more evaporation - thus, causing more inland mountain rainfall, meaning more water in our reservoirs - rather, I suggest our drought issues are that of another human cause, not CO2, but increased population growth. Let's talk.

Why the Federal Reserve Bank Has a Near Zero Interest Rate Policy
by
Warren J Sulmasy
Before everyone celebrates the stock market at all time highs maybe they should ask why the Federal Reserve Bank has overnight rates at 0.25%. The Federal Reserve has made a dramatic, concerted effort to help the global banking system recapitalize itself principally by keeping rates at near zero.
