Tom Brokaw's Report on Baby Boomers - Disappointing
by
Phil McMillan
I watched the Tom Brokaw Report on Baby Boomers the other night and I have to say that I found much of it disappointing. He might as well have done a study on the NBC reporting of the 60's which was, as I remembered it, just a sliver of the reality of the 60's here in the USA.

Tune In, Turn On, Drop Out
by
Nick Luvera
I have listened to Tom Brokaw's audio book 'Boom' a couple of times. It is an interesting recap of major events of the 1960's in the context of his personal perspective as a journalist, father, husband, friend and American citizen.

To Tim Russert on Passing
by
John T Jones, Ph.D.
Tim Russert was like an older brother who was looking out for us. He stripped greedy and unethical politicians to their ugly core. To others, he showed compassion and understanding. He was part of America and we miss him.

What Has Happened to America?
by
Gary Wonning
The greatest generation, as Tom Brokaw would call them, as well as previous generations, created the biggest, best, most prosperous nation on earth. They survived the Great Depression, fought and won two world wars, the Korean war, and built an economy unsurpassed by any nation in world history.

The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse in Relationships
by
Jackie Capers-Brown
What you don't know can hinder your well-being in life. As social animals, the quality of our relationships has a tremendous impact on the quality of our lives. This article adapted from the book, Fortytude, by Sarah Brokaw, identifies four patterns of behaviors and emotions from Dr. John Gottman's work with couples. In his observation of couples, he discovered a pattern of habits if allowed to take up permanent residency in the relationship would make it unlikely that the relationshp would endure. I would add that these behaviors are toxic to any relationship.

Perception, Persuasion, and Politics in Media - A Look at How Politicians Can Legally Rig Elections
by
David SheeHau Wong
Making someone, or indeed something, persuasive is much more complex than it may initially seem. We know what appeals to us to make us align with someone, but we are not always aware what the 'x factor' they possess really is; in other words, we can warm to someone without fully understanding why. The following example, from psychological literature, sheds some light on the matter.

Predatory Financing
by
Darrell Sorenson
Predator is one that preys, destroys or devours, relating to, or practicing plunder, pillage or rapine, showing disposition to injure or exploit others for personal gain. Prey is one that is helpless or unable to resist attack. Thousands of credit card holders became innocent victims of credit card companies.

Bringing Punctuation to Life (Part 2)
by
Charles Euchner
For many beginning writers - and some veterans as well - punctuation can get confusing. The rules of punctuation sometimes seem arcane, abstract, even random. But if we see punctuation as a form of traffic control - commands to stop, pause, look ahead, etc.
